Swedish Massage in Corsham
The classic massage: long, flowing strokes that ease tension, wake up your circulation and let you properly unwind.
What Swedish massage is
Swedish massage is the foundation that most Western massage is built on. It combines long, gliding strokes with kneading, rolling and gentle friction, working over the muscles in the direction of blood flow back towards the heart.
The effect is twofold. Physically, it warms and loosens tight muscle, moves blood and lymph, and helps clear the by-products that build up in tissue that has been held tense for too long. Just as importantly, the steady rhythm of it settles the nervous system — which is why so many people find themselves drifting off partway through.
It can be a full body treatment, or focused on one area such as back, neck and shoulders. Pressure is adjusted throughout to whatever suits you, from very light to reasonably firm.

How the session runs
You undress to your underwear and lie on the couch beneath warm towels. You stay covered throughout — I only uncover the area I am working on, and cover it again before moving on.
I use a light massage oil, warmed first. If you have any allergies or a preference for unscented, tell me and I will use something suitable. I start broadly to warm the tissue, then work into anything that needs more attention, checking the pressure with you as I go.
Talk if you want to. Say nothing at all if you would rather. Both are entirely normal, and neither is the wrong choice.
Not sure how long to book?
Thirty minutes covers one area well — usually back, neck and shoulders. Sixty minutes is the most popular and allows a full body treatment at a comfortable pace. Ninety gives time to be genuinely thorough.

Swedish massage questions
Is Swedish massage the same as a relaxing massage?
Largely, yes. Swedish is the technique; relaxation is what it is usually used for. It can be worked firmer if you want more from it, but its natural home is somewhere between soothing and moderately firm.
What is the difference between Swedish and deep tissue?
Swedish works broadly across the surface layers with flowing strokes, and it feels lovely. Deep tissue is slower and more specific, working into deeper layers to release long-standing knots, and it can be uncomfortable in places. Many treatments end up as a blend of both, which is entirely fine.
How often should I have one?
For general wellbeing, once a month suits most people. If you are dealing with a specific problem, more often to begin with and then spacing out as things improve. There is no obligation to book a course — come when it helps.
Can I have a Swedish massage while pregnant?
After the first trimester, and with your midwife or GP happy for you to, massage can be very welcome during pregnancy. Please mention it when you get in touch so I can plan positioning and pressure properly. I do not treat during the first trimester.
