Indian Head Massage in Corsham
An ancient Ayurvedic therapy working the acupressure points of the head, neck, upper back and shoulders.
What Indian head massage is
This is an ancient Ayurvedic therapy that focuses on massaging acupressure points on the head, neck, upper back and shoulders.
It is one of the oldest continuously practised forms of massage in the world, and it remains one of the most effective things I offer — particularly for anyone who carries their stress in their neck and shoulders, works at a screen all day, or struggles with tension headaches.
It is also the gentlest way in if you have never had a massage before. You can stay clothed, you can stay sitting up, and it takes half an hour.

How the session runs
A treatment lasts between 30 and 45 minutes. It can be conducted while seated or, if preferred, on a massage couch. Only the upper half of the body is exposed, though clients may opt to remain clothed.
The oil used leaves the skin feeling soft and the hair silky after washing. However, it is possible to have the treatment without oil applied to the hair if desired — useful if you are heading somewhere afterwards, and worth mentioning when you book.
I work up through the upper back and shoulders first, then the neck, then the scalp and finally the face and ears. Most people find the scalp work the part they remember.
A good first treatment
If you are nervous about massage, or booking on behalf of someone who is, this is the one to start with. You keep your clothes on, you stay sitting up, and nothing about it is exposing.

Want longer?
Indian head massage runs to 45 minutes. If you would like it as part of a longer session, book a 60 or 90 minute treatment and I will blend it with Swedish or deep tissue work across the back and shoulders.
Indian head massage questions
Will my hair be greasy afterwards?
The oil washes out easily and leaves hair feeling silky afterwards. If you would rather not have oil in your hair at all — because you are going back to work, or out afterwards — say so and I will do the treatment without it. It works perfectly well either way.
Do I have to take my top off?
No. Only the upper half of the body is exposed for the traditional version, and you may opt to remain clothed throughout. It is entirely your choice, and it makes no difference to how welcome you are.
Does it help with headaches?
Many clients come specifically for that. It helps pain management from headaches and migraines, and eases the eye strain and sinus pressure that often sit alongside them. It is not a medical treatment — if headaches are frequent, severe or new, please see your GP as well.
Can I have it sitting up?
Yes. It can be conducted seated or on the massage couch, whichever you prefer. Seated is traditional and works well if lying flat is uncomfortable for you.
Is it suitable if I have very little hair?
Completely. The treatment works on the scalp, neck, shoulders and face, and none of that depends on having hair. It is just as effective and just as pleasant.
